Operational turnaround
The CFO of a suburban hospital was at wits end with a failed implementation of a records scanning system. He had been promised a system that would reduce staffing and improve record retrieval and utilization. Asked to revive the project, we discovered several barriers to execution in departmental supervision, technical knowledge, performance goals, project management and staff and other resources.

We reviewed productivity throughout medical records, established performance targets and created a new staffing budget. We added equipment and space, provided training in records control and coding, recruited temporary staff for system implementation and began recruiting permanent staff. We supervised system implementation to eliminate scanning and indexing backlogs. We tightened accountability in the coding unit, reduced uncoded claims by $2 million and doubled coding productivity.
